Tbilisi: The representatives of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia have participated in the conference organized by the USAID Rule of Law Program. USAID(United States Aid Agency) is an international aid agency and supported many projects in Georgia for years.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the representatives of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia participated in the conference which was held under the head of “Making justice equally accessible to all”. This significant conference was organized by the Rule of Law Program of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
It is also worth mentioning that the conference was opened by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United States of America to Georgia, Robin Dunnigan.
Representatives of Parliament, Public Defenders, Courts, Lawyers’ Associations, Legal Aid, and various non-governmental organizations also participated in the conference.
At the conference the current situation in Georgia in terms of the rule of law and access to justice was discussedin particular the achievements and challenges in the protection of human rights in the justice process. Special attention was paid to the issues of the legal status of vulnerable groups.
The Deputy Head of the Department of Supervision and Strategic Development of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia Londa Bichikashvili addressed the attendees.
He spoke about the role of the Prosecutor’s Office as one of the central links of the justice system in the direction of protecting the rights of the victims and also emphasized the efforts of the Prosecutor’s Office in terms of raising the quality of prosecutorial activities, introducing international standards and approaches. which affects both the participants and the members of society their safety, crime prevention, and protection of human rights.
Reforms implemented at the initiative of the Prosecutor’s Office and progress achieved in terms of juvenile justice, gender-based violence against women, and domestic violence, as well as sexual crimes and gender-based discrimination were especially noted.
Londa Bichikashvili thanked international donor organizations for supporting the activities carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office to improve the quality of human rights protection.
