Tbilisi: The public defender of Georgia has met with representatives of ethnic communities of country. He assured these representatives from across the country to take every necessary step for their welfare.
The meeting between both sides was also held on Thursday. The representatives and members of the ethnic communities during this important meeting shared their issues that need immediate attention.
The public defender office after meeting revealed details of meeting. The office’s details added “On January 23, the Public Defender of Georgia in a very productive meeting with representatives of ethnic minorities in Georgia listen to their problems.”
As per information from office after listening to ethnic community members and their problem the public defender apprised them about activities being carried out by the Public Defender’s Office.
The meeting was opened by the Public Defender Levan Ioseliani, Deputy Public Defender Irine Chikhladze and the Coordinator of the Ethnic Minorities Council Koba Chopliani. The representative of the Public Defender’s Office Mariam Orzhonia discussed the mandate of the Public Defender in the field of ethnic minority rights.
In addition he presented information on the main issues included in the annual parliamentary report of the Public Defender of Georgia regarding ethnic minorities and the activities carried out by the Office to advocate for the challenges behind the report. Moreover, the public defender at meeting also reinterred office’s commitment for development of community.
Notably during the discussion held within the framework of the meeting, the challenges in terms of protecting the rights and integration of ethnic minorities. They also discussed the issues that were covered in the 2024 parliamentary report of the Public Defender.
According to public defender in the efforts will be streamlined in near future with coordination of local, and national agencies. The pubic defender after the meeting thanked member of ethnic community for raisin their concerns.
Similarly the representative of the ethnic community expressed their gratitude towards public defener for showing the commitment about community welfare.
