Tbilisi: The representative of the Department of Equality of the Office of the Public Defender of Georgia conducted seminar on sexual harassment. The seminar was attended by the employees of Tegeta Holding company in Tbilisi and Batumi.
It is worth mentioning that the Department of Equality representatives focused on the sexual harassment problem and how to address it. The representatives of the Department of Equality stressed the crucial role of the internal mechanism in preventing sexual harassment, particularly in the workplace.
The participants were educated on the meaning of sexual harassment its various forms and the indicators for its recognition. They also learned about the types of evidence that can be used to substantiate a claim of sexual harassment if they become victims of such a crime.
The Office of the Public Defender a staunch advocate for equality commends the proactive stance of private companies in engaging in activities that promote understanding of equality issues. The public defender views educational activities and awareness-raising measures as vital components in the quest for equality.
The office in this regard cooperates with various agencies and organizations to prevent sexual harassment as well. Notably the sexual harassment of the women employees is the biggest problem in the country. The female employees often complain about sexual harassment and issues need immediate attention.
The company’s employees were explained all the aspects of sexual harassment and what measures they can use to address the problem. A dedicated presentation was also held. This covers the details of the problems. The heads of the companies were also urged to adopt the proper mechanisms in their respective companies so that the women employees did not face any problems at work.
It is worth mentioning that the office of the public defender and the prosecution services have taken many initiatives in this direction. Representatives of both offices have launched many awareness drives to reduce the incidence of sexual harassment to zero with immediate effects.
