Georgia Dream the ruling party of Georgia revealed the names of all candidates in the latest issued list.
The party has made public the names of all 170 candidates who are in the fray to win the October parliament election.
It is worth noting that although the total number of seats is just 150, the list of GDs had a total of 170 names. The decision to announce the names of 170 was taken because some may leave the race before the election date.
Mamuka Mdinaradze, the leader of the parliamentary majority while briefing the media made it clear that “the ruling party is very hopeful for victory. The party leadership expected to record victory in more than one hundred seats.”
Notably party released a list of twenty candidates many days ago. For the first time since 2012the name of GD’s honorary chairman and founder was at the top of the list. The full list of candidates does not include the names of many key figures.
For example the list does not include the names of the former speaker of Parliament Archil Talakvadz. His name was mentioned in second place in the 2020 elections.
The list also does not include names such as Levan Kobiashvili, the head of the National Football Federation and Eliso Bolkvadze. The name of the controversial Beka Odisharia is not mentioned in the list. He used vulgar language against the female members of parliament of opposition parties.
At the same time the names of 50 current MPs have been excluded from the list. It includes Nino Tsilosani, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Irakli Zarkua known for his vulgar anti-Western statements, Mariam Lashkhi, Aluda Ghudushauri, Givi Mikanadze, and Viktor Japaridze.
It is very clear that the list contains names who have hidden an anti-Western approach. Thursday was the last day to submit the final list. Georgia is going to host the first-time fully proportional election of Parliament.
The election will be a referendum on the policies of the Georgian Dream. The party faces the heat of opposition parties and many foreign countries for adopting a foreign agents law.
