Two explosions were heard early this morning in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. It was reported that Russia again attacked Kyiv’s residential regions with Kamikaze drones. The first drone struck the capital at 6:30 am, and a few moments later, another drone strike occurred around 7:00 am. Andriy Yermak, head of the office of the Ukrainian president, strongly criticized the attack saying, “The Russians believe this will benefit them, yet their acts appear to be painful”.

Vitaly Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, reported that several buildings were damaged during the attack, and people were sleeping when the explosions were heard. Air raid sirens sounded shortly before the explosion. In the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine, a big fire has started at an energy facility after a missile struck it overnight. The anti-aircraft defence successfully destroyed three enemy missiles.

With an additional 2.8 million children now living in households below the poverty line due to the Ukraine war and a cost-of-living crisis in the region, UNICEF discovered that Russia is responsible for nearly three-quarters of the overall increase in the number of children living in poverty.

It was also mentioned that Ukraine, which has the second-highest percentage of poor children, is home to an additional 500,000 of them. Romania came second, with an additional 110,000 kids living in poverty.

Children across the country are getting swept away in the tragic consequences of this war, according to Afshan Khan, regional director for UNICEF in Europe and Central Asia. The dramatic rise in child poverty will likely result in lost lives, missed learning, and futures if we don’t help these children and families now.

According to the agency, a family’s ability to pay for food and utilities will decrease as they get poorer, leaving less money for the education and health of their children.
