Philip J Pierre, the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Piaye Bridge. The bridge was constructed with financial aid from the European Union.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to mark the official opening of the bridge. The bridge is very significant as it will connect the town of Vieux-fort with the southwestern communities of Laborie, Chiiseul, and Soufriere. The construction of the bridge will also reduce travel time.
PM Philip J Pierrre took to his social media handle to inform the citizens regarding this development. The PM also recalled his tenure as Infrastructure Minister.
PM stated in a Facebook post that “The ribbon-cutting ceremony brought me back to past memories of 2013 when there was huge destruction to life and property in the country”.
PM also added that “I had a great responsibility as Infrastructure Minister to restore the connectivity between different parts of the Island after the destruction.”
According to PM Philip J Pierre We mobilised the resources under the guidance of then Prime Minister Kenny D. Anthony, Moreover we secured $7.35 million for the reconstruction of Piaye Bridge.
On this occassion PM Pierrre was also accompanied by Félix Fernández-Shaw, Director for Latin America, the Caribbean and relations with all Overseas Countries and Territories at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA), Cabinet Ministers and EU (Europen Union) dignitaries
The PM also assures the citizens for continue sustainable-oriented development of the country.Meanwhile, social media user also gave their mixed reaction to the Facebook post of PM Pierre.
User Augustus Uwi commented, “Congratulations to all . But we need to analyse why there was so much delay in the construction of the bridge ”. Similarly another user Gregor Forde while commenting appreciated the decision to invite the opposing MP to the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
