Georgia: Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, First Vice-Speaker Giorgi Volski and Chairman of the European Integration Committee Maka Bochorishvili got acquainted with the situation in the villages near the occupation line in Shida Kartli.
“It is important to have stability. There is no development without stability. This region is of strategic importance to us. The main thing is that the villages are not empty, but the population has increased. There are problems, but the trends are very promising”, said Giorgi Volski, the first vice-speaker of the Parliament.
According to Giorgi Volski, the interest of the chairman of the Parliament and the team was to get to know the people and the farms that the state helped with serious resources.
The Chairman of the Parliament, the First Vice-Speaker and the Chairman of the European Integration Committee visited the orchards financed within the framework of the state program in the village of Arbo and visited the schools of the villages of Adzvi and Jariashen.
“The interest of our team and the chairman of the Parliament was to get to know the people and the farms, which were helped by the state with quite serious resources, and the people really justify this help with their hard work and professionalism and are quite successful. In addition, we visited infrastructure projects. The supply of drinking water has always been a problem in this area, and people have been without water for decades. There are a number of villages that are already using the water supplied by new projects, and among them, irrigation water is of special importance. The number of irrigation water channels is incomparably large. If it wasn’t for the hard work and professionalism of the people, it wouldn’t be what we see now. No square meter of land is left uncultivated. It is very important that this involves the return of young people to schools, Families are coming back, and there’s a pretty serious number of programs that they’re taking advantage of. Of course, there are problems, no one should say that we have come only to evaluate the positive situation, but with this positive trend, at this pace, of course, the problems will be solved”, Giorgi Volski said.
According to Maka Bochorishvili, the chairman of the European integration committee, it is best seen in the villages near the occupation line, what is the face of the Russian occupation and what are the results of the Russian occupation.
“It is important that we pay special attention to these villages, which are located on the occupation line, to the people who live here, who see and watch the Russian occupation every day, and of course, from our side, they have support, to stand by their side, so that they can cope with these difficult conditions as much as possible. Coping with the Russian occupation,” said Maka Bochorishvili.
Gori Mayor Vladimir Khinchegashvili and local government representatives attended the meetings.
At the end of the day, Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, First Vice-Speaker Giorgi Volski and Chairman of the European Integration Committee Maka Bochorishvili met with the head of the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) and the representative of the regional office in Gori.
