Tbilisi: The opposition political parties Droa, Strategy Agmashenebeli and Girchi More Freedom, on Saturday, held a public discussion on various agendas. The topics of discussion included the 12-point conditions that the European Union put forth before granting membership candidate status to Georgia, the Georgian Dream party’s loyalty towards Russia and the significance of pro-western Opposition in Georgia.
Recently, the ruling party’s MP. Anri Okhanashvili recently initiated the bill on the formation of an anti-corruption agency. The bill was proposed as one of the 12 conditions of the European Union. Where the Georgian Dream has been claiming to be actively fulfilling the 12 conditions, the bill received alot of criticism as it stated the head of the agency to be appointed by the Prime Minister himself.
Paata Manjgaladze, MP from Strategy Agmashenebeli opposition party, called out against the bill, stating Georgia required an independent investigative agency, not a PM’s tail.
The Opposition also discussed the Georgian Dream‘s loyalty towards Kremlin. Although the Former Prime Minister and founder of the Georgian Dream, Bidzina Ivanishvili, has been out of the political arena following his retirement, he is known to have a strong influence in the administration and informally running the government from the background.
According to the condition put up by the European Union, the country needs to sternly implement deoligarchisation and alleviate the influence of vested individuals from the economic and social spheres.
The parties also stressed the significant role of the pro-western Opposition, where the ruling party somewhere seems influenced by the oligarchs.
