Georgia: USAID National Governance Program announces that the 8th Tbilisi International Conference: “A breakthrough year” was held in Tbilisi on September 2-3, 2024.
The Center for Economic Policy Research, the McCain Institute of Arizona State University, and the George Bush Institute organized it, supported by the USAID Public Governance Program.
About 350 delegates attended the two-day event, including regional security experts, Georgian politicians, civil society activists, and business sector representatives. The conference focused on important topics such as keeping Georgia in the priorities of the EU and the transatlantic agenda, its democratic progress, and aspirations for closer integration with the West.
One of the conference’s highlights was the panel discussion on “Democracy against authoritarianism” with Dr. Aleksandre Sokolovsky, Deputy Administrator of the Bureau for Europe and Eurasia, USAID. His speech once again emphasized the importance of democratic development in Georgia and the role of USAID locally and globally.
The conference is a unique platform that brings together world-class political leaders and security experts from the United States of America, Western Europe, the Euro-Atlantic community, and Georgia to discuss the vision of a united, accessible, and peaceful Europe, challenges facing Eastern European countries and strategies for developing security in the region.
It is noteworthy that about 30 participants (program implementing organizations: GIP, IDFI, ORI, CSD, and EPRC) attended this prestigious event, the internship program, and the “Public Policy Pilot Initiatives for Youth Engagement and Mentoring”.
They will have the unique opportunity to gain valuable information on important topics such as European security, hybrid warfare, and global democracy chall andas to establish contacts with leaders of Euro-Atlantic partner countries, which will further their professional development.
By supporting such events, USAID’s Public Governance Program actively promotes Georgia’s integration process into the European Union and the country’s democratic development.
