Georgia: The National Teacher Award Ceremony was held in Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet Theater, named after Zakaria Paliashvili, on September 13, 2024.
During the event, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze and Minister of Education, Science, and Youth Giorgi Amilakhvar addressed the audience, congratulated the prize’s finalist teachers on their success, and discussed the importance of the teacher’s profession.
For the unique contribution made to the development of society and the education system, the National Teacher Award and Cash Prize of the Year 2024 were awarded to 10 teachers. These are the ones:
- Vera Somkhishvili, teacher of Georgian language and literature at the 8th public school of Gori;
- Tamar Adam, the art teacher of the 28th public school of Tbilisi;
- Ivane Gokadze, the teacher of the 41st Public School of Kutaisi;
- Eka Sepiashvili, the English language teacher of the first school of Dedoplistskaro;
- Sports teacher of Akhalsofli school in Khelvachauri village, Nani Kirkitadze;
- Geography teacher of Gori 5th Public School, Nana Tsitsuashvili;
- Senaki’s first school art teacher, Mamuka Kuchava;
- Ekaterine Gurgenashvili, Biology and Natural History Teacher of Telavi 4th Public School;
- Ana Anushidze, teacher of primary classes and geography at Batumi Second School;
- Art teacher of Akhaltsikhe’s second public school, Zurab Inasaridze.
It should be noted that applications for the National Teacher Award started in April 2024 and ended in July. More than 2000 teachers were participating in the competition throughout Georgia.
According to the criteria set out by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, teachers who have contributed in various ways to the development of students, school community, or community were selected.
Subsequently, the special commission, composed of people from different professions, announced the ten winners.
They remind the public that the National Teacher Award was established in 2023 by the Government of Georgia. Accordingly, every year, for the special contribution made to the development of society and the education system, teachers will be awarded the National Teacher’s Award—a specially designed breast badge and a cash award of 10,000 Gel.
