To recognise the contribution of wounded soldiers to the country the “Wounded Fighters Charity Run” was held at Lisi Lake in the capital Tbilisi. The race has three categories 3, 5, and 13 kilometres respectively.
A significant number of participants attended the race. They included military personnel from the Ministry of Defence of Georgia, representatives of the diplomatic corps, volunteer organizations and family members of wounded soldiers.
The family members of serving and other retired soldiers of the Georgian army were also present on this occasion.
The Military orchestra of the National Guard of the Defence Forces gave a mesmerising performance for the marathon attendees. The Ministry of Defence of Georgia took to their social media handles and shared glimpses of the event.
All participants were dressed in sportswear. It was very inspiring to see that wounded as well soldiers who become disabled due to loss of their body organs such as legs and arms took part in the race also.
All the runners were very excited to participate in the event. At the end of the event Deputy Minister of Defense Paata Patiashvili and Deputy Commander of Defense Forces Brigadier General Irakli Chichinadze presented medals and certificates of appreciation to the winners.
At the same time marathon participants were also given commemorative bracelets from the Wounded Fighters Support Fund. It is worth noting that the charity event is held annually at the initiative of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia.
The defence ministry also received support from the Tbilisi Military Attaches Association and the Wounded Fighters Support Fund for successful organisations or races. The funds collected from the charity marathon will be fully transferred to the Wounded Fighters Support Fund so that more measures for their welfare can be successfully executed.
The event organiser thanked all the participants at the end of the race. Meanwhile, the runner and winner while sharing their experience called the event a wonderful lifelong memory.
