Tbilisi: Tea Akhvlediani, Minister of State for Reconciliation and Civil Equality of Georgia addressed the national parliament.

She gave speech during a joint meeting of the Committees on Legal Issues, Protection of Human Rights and Civil Integration, Défence and Security and Procedural Issues and Rules.

She in her address added that, “We already have thousands of successful bilingual young people, for whom the opportunity to learn the state language has expanded their prospects for personal fulfilment, inclusion in various spheres of public life and employment.”

She further added,“It is very special moment to underline  our vision for the state policy of civil equality and integration, which aims to provide an equal environment and opportunities for full participation in all spheres of public life for all citizens of Georgia regardless of their ethnic affiliation.”

At the same time the main mechanism of this policy is the State Strategy of Civil Equality and Integration for 2021-30 of the Government of Georgia, the implementation of which is already in its fourth year and is proceeding with positive dynamics.

It is worth emphasizing that among the interrelated priorities declared as the long-term orientation of policy, improving the level of knowledge of the state language in regions densely populated by ethnic minorities is main task.

She stressed, Knowledge of the Georgian language is a prerequisite for the full integration of non-Georgian-speaking population, personal and professional development, civic and political participation as well as communication and cultural sharing between different ethnic groups.

Minister  highlighted in her speech that “In response to the challenges that exist in this direction to date, a number of important mechanisms and initiatives have been introduced as a result of which the teaching of the Georgian language is gradually improving at all levels of education as well as at the level of adult education, both methodologically and in terms of geographical coverage.”

As per Minister, our future plans envisage consistent and sustainable improvement of the above processes, effective implementation of strategic objectives and achievement of even larger-scale results.

In addition, measures to improve access to information and raise awareness of the population on current issues will be improved, including by involving young people and women, thereby contributing to increasing the effectiveness of their resources in the integration process.”
