Tea Akhvlediani meets UN Representative Jihan Sultanoglu

Tea Akhvlediani, Minister of State for Reconciliation and Civil Equality of Georgia, held a meeting with Jihan Sultanoglu. Jihan Sultanoglu is the UN Representative of Geneva International Negotiations. Both sides discussed many issues, including UN involvement in peaceful conflict resolution.

Tbilisi: Tea Akhvlediani, Minister of State for Reconciliation and Civil Equality of Georgia, held a meeting with Jihan Sultanoglu. Jihan Sultanoglu is the UN Representative of Geneva International Negotiations. Both sides discussed many issues, including UN involvement in peaceful conflict resolution.

It is to be specifically mentioned that in this significant meeting, both sides discussed the UN’s involvement in the peaceful resolution of the conflict at the regional and International levels.
Discussions were also held regarding the role of the UN co-chair in the Geneva international negotiations, along with the importance of humanitarian work in the Abkhazia region.

Minister emphasised the importance of the Geneva International talks and the need for progress on the agenda, including humanitarian issues in conflict-hit zones of the country and region as well.

The meeting also highlighted the grave consequences of the illegal and unlawful occupation of the Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions of Georgia, including huge violations of the rights and fundamental freedoms of the local population and denial of life.

They also discussed the illegal detention of Georgian residents, restrictions on free movement, ethnic discrimination, and prohibition of education in the native language of Georgia, along the occupation line, over wires and other artificial barriers, Including an illegal pick up.

Tea Akhvlediani stressed the need to continue efforts by international humanitarian and human rights agencies, including the co-chairs of the Geneva International Negotiations, to ensure the immediate release of all citizens of Georgia illegally detained.

Tea Akhvlediani introduced the guest UN representative to the process of implementation of the reconciliation and inclusion policy, results achieved so far and future visions aimed to improve the socio-economic conditions of the people affected by conflict and deepening cooperation and trust based on mutual interests between artificially divided communities of country.

During the Geneva International negotiations, the UN representative positively assessed the efforts of the Georgian government in the peace process.
The sides agreed to continue close cooperation to uplift the human rights of those people who were affected by the conflict.
