Tbilisi: Tengiz Nasaridze, the Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of the Georgia attended the meeting of the Civil Committee of the Interagency Coordination Council for Agriculture and Rural Development.
During the meeting minister emphasized the role of civil society in the development of the agriculture sector. Participants of the meeting also discussed ways for stimulating the development of local entrepreneurship, improving the socio-economic condition of the rural population, and implementing climate-friendly production in the agriculture sector of the country as well.
Speaking specifically Tengiz Nasaridze said “We discussed with representatives of various civil sectoral associations about topical issues that are adapted to the needs of the agricultural sector of the country. We have also discussed the projects being supported by the European Union and the United Nations Development Program. To identify challenges and solve problems the involvement of civil sector representatives is essential. We will reach optimal solutions by discussing current issues”.
At the same time the participants also discussed two new programs “Implementation of the LEADER/CLLD approach in Georgia: a community-based local support program” and another one “Livestock development program”, as well as new and current programs of the Rural Development Agency of Georgia.
On the other hand Ketevan Khutsishvili the representative of the European Union in Georgia stated that “In the process of rural development and agricultural policy development between Georgia and the European Union which has been going on for more than 10 years the involvement of the civil sector is very important. Due to this reason a civil committee was created which brings together representatives of the civil sector from different directions”.
Noatblay meeting of the civil committee was organized by the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia. Moreover it was held with the support of the European Union and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Representatives of relevant services of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, civil committee, as well as representatives of the European Union and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) participated in the meeting.
