Tbilisi: The Georgian economy minister, Levan Davitashvili, on Monday stated that the income from the domestic tourism sector this year is expected is reach nearly $3.2 billion. This is very close to the incomes before the pre-pandemic period.
The economy minister said the recovery in the tourism sector had exhibited consistent growth, despite the off-seasonal periods.
I believe the recovery process will continue proactively. Between July and September, tourism income outperformed that in the pre-pandemic period. The winter season is expected to be active thanks to restored flights to a number of directions”, said the minister.
He further added that the recovery trends were absolutely positive, considering the lack of tourists due to the current geopolitical situation in the region. Moreover, the growth in the number of tourists would further increase once the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict ends.
Davitashvili also highlighted the rapid development of the country’s capital market to be ‘one of the major aspects’ within structural reforms, stating that the government has discussed the 2022-2028 plans for uplifting the capital market of Georgia and approved the related 2022-2024 action plan at its weekly meeting on Monday.
He stressed that actions would contribute to the unification of Georgia’s economic space, ensure freedom of economic activity and establishment a competitive and stable investment environment.
While assuring the rapid development of the capital market on a priority basis, Davitashvili further stated that the government is consistently fulfilling the country’s obligations towards the European Union as a part of the 2014-signed association agreement between the sides.
