Georgia: A two-day training on theoretical principles of grape planting-forming, rules, and terms of harvesting was held for students of agronomic and vineyard-winery educational programs at the Jighaura base of the Agricultural Scientific and Research Center (SRCA).
Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the Scientific and Research Center of Agriculture (SRCA), and the Center’s Vineyard Specialists Tekle Zakalashvili and Jaba Abaishvili led the training.
The students who registered themselves in agronomic and vineyard-winery educational programs had the opportunity to take part in various parts of grape cultivation and wine production. More than 60 participants were able to attend the two-day thematic training.
During the training, vineyard farmers, extension staff, students, and other stakeholders received theoretical and practical knowledge and advice on vineyard growing, transplantation, major diseases of the vineyard, agrotechnology, phytosanitary, and other topics of interest to them.
According to the director of Agricultural Scientific Research Center’s Director, theoretical and practical thematic seminar training, and demonstration days are regularly held with the ongoing scientific research work on the trial-demonstration bases of the Agricultural Scientific Research Center (SRCA).
Such events serve to enhance the practical skills of farmers, as well as other stakeholders, deepen the knowledge of young staff, and help them to better manage their professional activities,” said Levan Ujamjuridze.
After completing the theoretical part of the training, the participants moved to the vineyard plot, engaged in the process of planting different forms of grapes, and received exhaustive answers to their interesting questions.
This hands-on experience provided to students was the main highlight of the training, as the students actively participated in vineyard pruning exercises. This practical part allowed them to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting, gaining valuable skills that are necessary for success in the agricultural sector.
