Georgia and CPLP countries strengthen their ties

Georgia: Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia Tariel Gugava held a working meeting with the Cooperation of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) delegation, led by the Executive Secretary of the Co-operative, Zakaria, and Costa.

At the meeting, the parties fostered a spirit of collaboration, emphasizing the importance of fruitful cooperation between Georgia and CPLP countries. They explored the exciting prospects for deepening relations with the member states of the fellowship, inviting all to contribute to this shared vision.

The conversation was about strengthening cooperation in education, science, and youth between fellowship and observer countries in bilateral and multilateral formats.

Tariel Gugava provided detailed information to the delegation’s representatives about the Portuguese Language Center named after Luish Kamoesh at Tbilisi State University, which is named after Ivane Javakhishvili. 

The center, which has been functioning since 2012, aims to spread Portuguese language education and luzophone culture. It has successfully facilitated cultural exchange and language learning, contributing to the strengthening of ties between Georgia and CPLP countries.

According to the Deputy Minister, the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth is poised to help establish direct links between Georgian higher education institutions and universities of CPLP countries. This initiative holds great promise, potentially opening up new avenues for academic and cultural exchange.

At the end of the meeting, Zakaria and Costa introduced Tariel Gugava to an exciting initiative. They proposed the establishment of a portal for scientific, research, higher and general education within the CPLP. This portal would serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, collaborative research, and academic networking. 

In his turn, the deputy minister expressed his full support for the Portuguese side in this case, recognizing the potential of this initiative to enhance cooperation in education and science.

The delegation of the Commonwealth of Portuguese-speaking States will visit Georgia from May 25 to 28. During the visit, the delegation will meet with representatives of both legislative and executive authorities.

Georgia has joined the fellowship of Portuguese-speaking countries since 2014 as an associate observer.
