Tbilisi: The Georgian national centre for control of disease said, 130,000 people have been immunised so far through vaccination. They have been immunised against seasonal flu and many other deadly diseases also.
The announcement in this regard was made on Wednesday by Georgian National Centre for Disease Control and Public Health. As per details covered in announcement so far with overall and collective efforts a total of 130,000 people had been immunised.
This number is of people who have been covered so far under anti-flu vaccination programme to date by health authorities. The official of national control of disease centre also said that, in future the efforts in this direction will be streamlined to cover more percentage of citizens also.
It is worth to note that under this current program a four-component vaccine manufactured by Abbott Biologicals B.V. was used for vaccination of people. This vaccine is developed by global healthcare company.
The company has its base in the Netherlands. Moreover, health experts also said this vaccine was already recommended by the World Health Organisation for complete vaccination.
While speaking about the success of vaccination programs, Eka Adamia the NCDC Deputy Directo underlined that the growing threat of influenza viruses prompted authorities to act swiftly.
He further stated that influenza viruses were circulating not within geographical regions of Georgia but also at global level. Moreover, along with the threat of influenza A and B as well as other viruses being prevalent in the country during this season some of which includes the rhinovirus and adenovirus.
NCDC director while speaking further advised people to use extra caution for protection against these viruses. He said to people while advising that, wash your hands, wear face masks in crowded places, ventilate rooms frequently, use disinfectants.
However, the most important thing is vaccination. He said the importance of vaccination cannot be undervalues at any cost. Moreover, according to him annual vaccination is extremally important for effective prevention of viruses.
