Tbilisi: An American citizen, Frank Yanez, who had been illegally detained by the Russian occupation forces in central Georgia, has been released. He is currently under territory under the control of the Government of Georgia. The State Security Service of Georgia made this announcement on Wednesday.
The state agency revealed that the use of hotline mechanism and other tools at the disposal of the government had been actively used in Frank Yanez’s release from the illegal detention in Central Georgia’s occupied region of Tskhinvali( South Ossetia) region.
The media had reported the illegal detention of the US national citizen to have taken place on July 27 near Akhalgori district village of Balaani. The issue of his release was brought forth to chairs of Geneva International Discussions.
 It is a platform that was launched in 2008 as a consequence of the Russia-Georgia war that had sparked the ongoing occupation of the two Georgian regions, along with the international partners.
It had placed the entire responsibility, for the destructive actions being carried out in occupied Regions of Georgia and along the occupation, upon the Russian occupation forces.
The Russia-Georgia war in 2008 had ended with a decree being signed by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as sovereign states. Georgian Parliament, on August 28, 2008, had unanimously declared Abkhazia and South Ossetia as Russian-occupied regions.Â
Therefore, Russian troops have been deployed there to prevent Georgians from taking over the control of the regions as commanded by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
