Russia-Ukraine War: Russia‘s latest annexure of four Ukrainian regions, namely Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia, was an act intended for publicity than a serious political move, stated Giorgi Rukhadze, the founder of Georgian Strategic Analysis Center (GSAC). As per him, the recent annexure does not fundamentally change anything, as only Russia recognises the act.
Further, he said that with the declaration of these territories as Russian, President Putin has a reason to call on support from his allies; on the excuse of Russian territories being attacked.
However, those countries should first recognise the regions as part of Russia; that will not happen so easily. Armenia will not admit to it, nor will Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan”, said Rukhadze, noting that the Russian appeal to the “allies” for help would not have “any weight”.
Also, the Abkhazian locals would resist their participation in the Russia-Ukraine war as a part of Russia’s recently announced partial mobilisation, said Rukhadze.
Adding further, he noted that “Those who have double citizenship and live in the territory of Abkhazia are usually subject to conscription. As far as I know, the de facto government of Abkhazia does not oppose this much. I am sure that when this affects a lot of people, the public will stand against it.”
As far as nuclear threats are concerned, Russia, if it dares to do so, it won’t look up reasons to attack.
