Tbilisi: First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Giorgi Khanishvili attended the discussion of the concept of the national policy of sustainable pasture management.

The concept is based on a complex approach and discusses sustainable use of pastures with the development of the livestock sector. Based on the concept, pastures will be classified and general principles of disposing of pastures will be defined.

“Georgia is starting a national pasture management reform in accordance with the goals of sustainable development. Reform is based on local needs and shared international best practices. I think this concept is very important for farmers interested in farming,” said First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili.

It is noteworthy that in the process of drafting the concept of the national policy for sustainable pasture management the existing approaches to pasture management in the highland regions of European countries (France, Switzerland) were taken into account.

The preliminary document of the National Policy for Sustainable Pastures Management will be based on the preparation of a relevant legislative package in the field of pasture management.
