The Notary Chamber of Georgia has partnered with the Council of Notaries of the European Union. This move will enhance the cooperation and exchange of best practices on sanotary mediation, a form of alternative dispute resolution that involves notaries as mediators.

This was announced by Ekaterine Nandoshvili, the Board of the Chamber of Notaries Chairman, at the Annual Interdisciplinary Forum of Mediation, organized by the Association of Mediators on Monday.

“During sanotary mediation, a citizen does not need to fill in a complaint form and pass the stage of filing a lawsuit to pay the state base, lawyer services. The notary mediation process is reliable, simple and accessible in resolving a civil dispute,” noted the chairman of the Board of Notaries.

Nandoshvili highlighted the benefits of sanotary mediation for citizens, who can avoid the hassle and cost of filing a lawsuit and rely on the notary’s expertise and impartiality to resolve their civil disputes.

In her report, Ekaterine Nandoshvili also considered accepting the Notary Chamber of Georgia as a partner with the Council of Notaries of the European Union.

Sanotary mediation was introduced in Georgia in 2012 as a result of a legislative amendment that aimed to simplify and expedite the resolution of civil cases. Since then, certified notaries have been offering mediation services to parties who agree to settle their disputes out of court. All newly appointed notaries are required to undergo mediation training as part of their qualification process.

The forum was attended by members of the Board of the Notary Chamber, Nani Sidamonidze and David Imnadze, as well as representatives of the Notary Chamber and other stakeholders. The forum provided a platform for dialogue and discussion on mediation’s current trends and challenges in Georgia and beyond.

In the Georgian legal space, the Institute of Sanotary Mediation, as an alternative, simplified form of dispute resolution, was established due to the 2012 legislative amendment.
