Consultation held on Climate change in Georgia’s Capital

Tbilisi: In Tbilisi ,the capital of the Republic of Georgia, a public consultation meeting was held. The meeting aimed to discuss the “White Paper” On climate change.

A large number of people were present during the session, which was addressed by many key speakers and subject experts.It is to be specifically mentioned that the White Paper of the Law on Climate Change includes the basic principles regarding the topic, which are required to be included in the Law of Climate Change of Georgia. 

Moreover, the purpose of the White Paper is to continue the broad public discussion and consultations for the drafting of Georgia’s climate change law.

“White Paper” Georgian Climate Change Law was thoroughly developed by the Committee of Environment and Natural Resources of the Parliament of the Republic of Georgia in due collaboration with the Center for Environmental Information and Education. 

This was also prepared with the support of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) of the United Kingdom of England.

There are many Public consultations that will be held in the city, even in Batumi. Georgian law on climate change will be developed which will be based on the received opinions of national consultations.

It was attended by many government Minister and Higher officials, including Nino Tandilashvili, First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Chairman of the Committee of Environment and Natural Resources Maia Bitadze, Director of Environmental Information and Education Center Tamar Aladashvili.

The Head of Westminster Foundation for Democracy in Georgia Lasha Nakashidze, Ivane Javakhishvili State University Dean of Law Faculty Tamar Zarandia and Ivane Javakhishvili Head of International Law of Tbilisi State University Irine Kurdadze was present.

The event was also attended by the Representatives of non-governmental and community organisations, representatives of municipalities, students and interested societies who participated in the consultation. 

In order to promote maximum involvement of the population in public consultation, the meeting was held in a hybrid format, and everyone was allowed to share his thoughts and suggestions that could have been implemented as per the provision of Georgian Law.”

The danger of climate change at the global level makes this meeting more significant. Many initiatives have been launched by the Georgian Government to make the Georgian environment healthy and stable.

The key speakers of the event expressed hopes that this consultation meeting will have many benefits to spread awareness of environmental issues. At the same time, this will also help the Government to Implement many suggestions and thoughts shared by the participants of the event.

Due to heavy industrialisation and other urban activities the temperature of the earth has increased to a very high level. At the same time this global rise affects many aspects of human existence. Climate change’s danger and global warming if not taken seriously it will affect human existence after some time speakers added during the speech.

Some of the attendees also laud the initiative of the local administration to make the general public part of policy formulation. Meanwhile social media was flooded with the appropriate messages; social media users stated that this is a great step to enhance public participation in the protection of the environment of Georgia.
