Guyana: PM Philip J Pierre raises issue of claimate change at  CAROCOM meeting

Philip J Pierre, the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia highlighted the issues of Haiti along with other issues like nutrition security, ICC Men’s T20, and Regional Transportation while attending the 46th regular meeting of CARICOM. The 46th  regular meeting of CARICOM(Conference of Heads of Governments of the Caribbean Community) was held recently in Georgetown Guyana.

Philip J Pierre, the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia highlighted the issues of climate change along with other issues like nutrition security, ICC Men’s T20, and Regional Transportation,Haiti etc while attending the 46th regular meeting of CARICOM.

The 46th  regular meeting of CARICOM(Conference of Heads of Governments of the Caribbean Community) was held recently in Georgetown Guyana.

It is to be specifically mentioned that the 46th session of the CARICOM held from February 25 to 28, 2024. PM Philip J Pierre also took to his social media handles and posted on Facebook that “Day One of the 46th Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community [CARICOM] in Georgetown Guyana focused on our pursuits towards regional and nutrition security, ICC Men’s T20, Regional Transportation, Reparations and the situation in Haiti”.

 

“I also had the opportunity to engage my colleagues on issues of Climate Change as the Lead Head for this sector” PM added. On this occasion the president of Guyana gave the feature address at the opening ceremony. Moreover Guyana will hold the chair of the CARICOM in the coming year.

 

PM Pierre stated that regional nutritional security is very important for the Caribbean region. The climate change and global warming are creating problems for regional food requirements of populations. PM advised all participants to make joint efforts to overcome these challenges.

 

Regional transportation issues will also improve the people-to-people contact, PM Pierre added. Additionally PM Pierre highlighted the issue of internal disturbance in Haiti. Notably the Caribbean nation Haiti is facing great humanitarian issues due to political instability, hunger, poverty, etc.

 

The PM called on all the members of CARICOM to help Haiti and protect the human rights of its citizens. According to PM Pieere political and economic stability of all the member countries is essential for the bright future of the whole Caribbean community.
