Tbilisi: Tamar Gabunia, the Deputy Health Minister of Georgia, said that thirty children who were abroad to get treatment for oncology-related diseases have returned to the country.

It is to be specifically mentioned that the patients who got the benefits under the program receive the benefits under the state programs, and they will be kept under the supervision in Georgia under the medical experts also.

This program for the welfare of patients was launched in August last year. According to the deputy health minister, almost 92 children have received benefits under the program so far, and three more children have joined the program to avail themselves of the benefits as well.

The minister further noted that six clinics were selected for treatment under the program, four of which were in Turkey and the rest in Spain and Israel.

The Deputy Health Minister, speaking specifically, added that the total amount spent on better treating these students was  ₾5.5 million ($1.96 mln). Moreover, there was no additional limitation on the inclusion in the program of those with a confirmed cancer diagnosis who also need immediate attention.

According to the minister, the council, which has been constituted for the treatment, is composed of international experts involving doctors of the Georgian diaspora. Before joining the program, these medical experts have already evaluated a patient’s condition. They further suggested that medical institutions have better infrastructure for providing better treatment facilities to patients infected with serious medical health complications as well.

The Deputy health minister further noted that “The Ministry has certain statistics about what type of problems we may encounter, which may not be thoroughly managed in the partner clinics. We are also planning to expand the number of clinics for cooperation.

The Georgian health ministry took the initiative to provide better health facilities to all citizens of the country. The ministry has also earmarked a good amount of budgetary allocation for this purpose.
