Tbilisi: The Chokhatauri and Ozurgeti municipalities of the Republic of Georgia have taken positive steps to utilize renewable energy sources. This is aimed at reducing the burden on natural resources to preserve non-renewable natural resources for future generations.
The latest methods for implementing renewable energy technologies have been introduced in Chokhatauri and Ozurgeti municipalities. Plans are under consideration to follow suit in other municipalities too.
According to the latest information available so far in four small hotels located in Ozurgeti, Khidistavi, Kopetil, and Gomi, solar panel installations and an information campaign about the possibilities of renewable energy technologies are underway. This will reduce electricity consumption and have positive impacts on the environment.
The official of the Chokhatauri and Ozurgeti added that the main goal of the demonstration project is to boost the tourism sector in Guria. It also aims to promote and introduce renewable energy technologies so that the commercial setup can reap the maximum benefits.
It is also worth noting that the initiative is implemented by the organization GEO—Georgia’s Environmental Outlook. The project also receives the required support from the United Nations Development Program and the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program (GEF SGP).
Notably  environmentalists and other people associated with environmental issues have appreciated the efforts of the municipalities. There has been long-pending demand for the implementation of initiatives that have the potential to lower the threats to area’s climates.
The officials of the central government  especially the representative from the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture  said that many other plans are in the pipeline that will inform the public about the importance of environmental protection.
Climate change and growing temperatures have been forcing concerned governments across the globe to lead efforts to mitigate the negative effects of climate change. The scientific community has also expressed their concern that if immediate steps are not taken the result could be dangerous in the future and difficult to control.
