GCCA Chairman Irakli Lekvinadze attends European Competition Day Conference in Warsaw

The event was organized by Poland’s Competition and Consumer Protection Office as part of its EU Council Chairmanship.

Warsaw, Poland: The Chairman of the Competition and Consumer Protection Agency of Georgia (GCCA), Irakli Lekvinadze, participated in the international conference which was dedicated to the European Competition Day. The event was held in Warsaw, Poland on May 26, 2025, Monday.

It should be mentioned that the event was organized by the Polish Competition and Consumer Protection Office (UOKiK), within the framework of the Polish Chairmanship of the European Union Council.

The Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (GCCA) shared glimpses of the event on its official Facebook page on May 28, 2025, Wednesday. The GCCA also shared some information about the event.

According to the information shared by GCCA, it was found that the main theme of the conference would be strengthening competition law and its adaptation to modern global challenges and political changes.

The event was attended by the competition and consumer protection agencies from different countries, international experts in the field, and other stakeholders.

Among them were:

  • Mario Monti, Honorary President of the Institute for European Policy at the University of Bocon
  • Andreas Mundt, Head of the German Federal Competition Agency (Bundeskartellamt)
  • Ro Schwartz, Head of the OECD Competition Department
  • Frederic Genny, Chairman of the OECD Competition Committee
  • Teresa Ribera, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Competition
  • Christina K Ovalik-Banchik, Judge of the European Union Common Court, Chairman of the Seventh Chamber
  • Maria Jaspers, Anna Kavatsini, Chairman of the European Parliament’s Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee (IMCO), and others

The event focused on various topics like the modern trends in competition policy and enforcement, consumer protection standards, and international practices. Furthermore, special attention was paid to the effective use of legal and institutional mechanisms in the digital economy.

During his visit, Irakli Lekvinadze held high-level meetings with heads of competition and consumer protection agencies from different countries in a bilateral format, aimed at deepening international cooperation and sharing experience.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Agency of Georgia actively continues to cooperate with international partners to share modern approaches and best practices.
