Georgia: The International scientific conference “Biotechnological means for gardening sustainability: mini-kiwi (Actinidia arguta Planch) popularization in the context of climate change” was held in Tbilisi on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. It was organized by the Scientific and Research Center of Agriculture (SRCA) of Georgia.
“Mini-Kiwi is one of the most promising perennial crops in the conditions of Georgia.” The research that the Center has been carrying out since 2019 is a clear example of how science can practically contribute to the diversification of agriculture and the planting of new crops in the conditions of climate change,” said Levan Ujmauridze, Director of the Agricultural Scientific-Research Center.
Invited researchers from Moldova State University and Armenian Agrarian University, as well as representatives of various Georgian research organizations, who presented presentations of their research in the field of the given culture.
At the conference, representatives of the Horticultural Research Service, Zviad Bobokashvili and Elene Maghlakelidze, presented the results of the ongoing observations of mini-kiwi species, their reproduction, and agronomic characteristics.
“This research is an important step in the process of promoting and implementing mini-kiwi.” Our goal is to provide farmers with environmentally adapted technologies that will actually increase the sustainability, diversity, and economic efficiency of production,” said Zviad Bobokashvili, the head of the Center’s Vision Research Service.
Within the framework of the Mini-Kiwi Farming Conference, the participants looked at the laboratories at the center’s Ttilkani base and the experimental base of Jighaura.
Agricultural Scientific-Research Center has been implementing the study of newly introduced mini-kiwi (Actinidia arguta Planch) culture since 2019, which aims to create technological methodologies for adaptation and reproduction of this culture in Georgia, which will contribute to the spread of sustainable crops and diversification of perennial crops.
The project “Biotechnological means for sustainability of gardening, by promoting non-traditional species such as mini-kiwi (Actinidia arguta Planch) in the context of climate change” (NARD-24-233) is funded by the National Science Foundation of Shota Rustaveli and the National Research and Development Agency of Moldova.
