Mikheil Sarjveladze chairs meeting on Public Health Plans for 2026

Under the leadership of the Minister of Health, Mikheil Sarjveladze, a meeting of the Supervisory Board of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health was held, where the main achievements of 2025 were assessed, and the action plans for 2026 were discussed.

The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health, and Social Welfare of Georgia shared the glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook Page on February 22, 2026, Sunday. The Ministry also shared a small note about the meeting along with its highlights.

Mikheil Sarjveladze spoke about the importance of the Centers for Disease Control and noted that one of the priorities of the Ministry is to further strengthen the institutional and technical capabilities of the Center. The Minister thanked board members and international partner organisations for their support and cooperation.

The General Director, Irakli Purtseladze, presented a presentation about the activities of the Center. He spoke in detail about the achievements of 2025, current challenges, and plans. Special attention will be given to progress made in managing infectious and non-communicable diseases, developing laboratory capacities, preparedness, and effective response to public health risks.

The session noted that the World Health Organization’s status for Georgia, a malaria-free country, is the result of many years of consistent policies, which gained international recognition of the country’s system.

During the event, the staff of the Centers for Disease Control were awarded for their special efforts in achieving the historic result of the elimination of malaria in Georgia.

The meeting of the Supervisory Board was held by Mariam Tabatadze, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Grigol Giorgadze, Vice Minister of Defense, Lasha Avaliani, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Tamar Makharashvili, Head of Georgian Representative Silviu Domente, joint Representatives of intermediate partner organizations, and center employees were present.,
