According to Article 32 of the Waste Management Code, the fine for littering the environment with municipal waste ranges from 500 GEL to 30,000 GEL, depending on the amount of waste and whether the violator is an individual or a legal entity.
In addition, the person against whom a protocol on an administrative offense has been drawn up is obliged to immediately or within a specified reasonable period of time clean up the area littered with construction waste or other inert waste.
Littering the environment with construction waste or other inert waste in a volume of up to 1 cubic meter will result in a fine of 500 GEL for an individual and a fine of 2,000 GEL for a legal entity.
The fine for littering the environment with construction waste or other inert waste in a volume of from 1 m3 to 10 m3 is 1,500 GEL for an individual, and 3,000 GEL for a legal entity.
Environmental pollution with construction waste or other inert waste in the volume of 10 m3 to 50 m3 will result in a fine of 5,000 GEL for an individual, and 15,000 GEL for a legal entity.
The fine for environmental pollution with construction waste or other inert waste in the volume of 50 m3 or more is 15,000 GEL for an individual, and 30,000 GEL for a legal entity.
Implementing effective state control over waste management is a priority for the Department of Environmental Supervision. The Department’s crews conduct 24-hour, continuous patrols throughout the country to prevent, detect, and suppress environmental violations promptly. In addition, an immediate response is provided to each message received on the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture’s hotline (153).
