The Minister of Education and Sports of Adjara, Maya Khajishvili, within the framework of the “Minister’s Hour”, presented the report of the Ministry’s activities to the High Council of Adjara.
The minister talked about the activities undertaken in 2025, as well as the current projects of 2026 and plans. The Ministry’s budget for 2025 was 116 million GEL, and the 2026 budget was defined at 119 million GEL.
According to the Georgian Education Minister, the year 2025 was unprecedented in terms of large-scale projects aimed at improving the infrastructure of public schools. In the academic year 2025-2026 in the Adjara region, more than 10,000 students participated in the learning process in a renewed environment.
Maya Khajishvili noted, “In 2025, education will be resumed in the fully rehabilitated Batumi N7, village Khikhadziri, Agari, Upper Sansveli, Jikhanjuri, Achkvistavi, Erge public schools.”
She also mentioned, “In 2025, a scholarship will be established for a student represented by the government of Adjara. In 2026, the number of scholarships will be doubled, and instead of 150 students, 300 students will become scholarship holders.”More than a thousand students have had their tuition fees financed in accredited universities in Georgia. Studying abroad will be financed for about 100 students,” said the Minister, Maia Khajishvili.
Notably, the professional development programs for teachers are continuing. New projects “My Mentor” and “Popularization of Agrarian Education” are starting.
In Olympic and non-Olympic sports, 373 medals were won at the World, European, and Georgian age championships, including 110 gold. For successful athletes and coaches in 2025, a one-time cash award, in the total amount of 1,000,000 GEL, was provided. In 2026, the funding for the sports field has increased.
Several high-ranking international competitions were held in Batumi last year. In 2026, the city hosted the European weightlifting championship for the second time.
The number of projects focused on the realization of young people’s interests and knowledge is increasing. In 2026, up to 15,000 young people will participate in the projects implemented by the Regional Youth Center.
