The First Deputy Minister of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia,
Guri Bakradze, attended the opening of the Center for Peace Education – “Youth Platform for Peace Building” at Shota Rustaveli State University of Batumi.
The Ministry of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Republic of
Abkhazia shared the glimpses of the opening ceremony of the center on its official Facebook Page on June 29, 2026, Monday. The Georgian Education Ministry also shared a small note about the event along with its glimpses.
Within the event, a thematic exhibition was organized against the background of musical compositions; the attending community heard reports about the center and saw dance and singing numbers performed by folk ensembles.
The center will create a new educational space for young people to learn and understand conflicts, historical experiences, and modern social processes. The platform will promote and preserve the Abkhazian language, culture, and historical memory, as well as support youth projects for peace and reconciliation.
The event was attended by the First Deputy Speaker of the
Parliament of Georgia, Chairman of the Temporary Commission on Restoration of Territorial Integrity and Deoccupation Issues Giorgi Volski, Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Zurab Pataradze, Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia Givi Mikanadze, members of the Government of Abkhazia Autonomous Republic, as well as Agma Members of executive and legislative authorities and university representatives attended.
The Peace Center “Meskhi Youth for Peace” has been operating on the basis of Samtshe-Javakheti State University since 2022, and this year the initiative was joined by Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University.
