The Committee on Environmental Protection and Natural Resources heard information from the Mayor of Rustavi, Nino Latsabidze, and the heads of structural units of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture about the state of ambient air in the city of Rustavi.
Nino Latsabidze spoke about the projects implemented to solve ecological problems in the city of Rustavi in ​​2026, as well as the challenges that still exist and ways to solve them. The Mayor focused on the new project planned for kindergartens and schools, which envisages the improvement of green spaces and their use for educational and recreational purposes.
The Head of the Environmental Pollution Monitoring Department of the National Environmental Agency of Georgia, Marine Arabidze, presented the results of ambient air quality monitoring in Rustavi to the committee members.
He reviewed the operation of monitoring stations, conducted indicative measurements, and obtained results. He also noted that the atmospheric air quality forecasting system is planned to be launched from 2027.
The Deputy Head of the Environmental Supervision Department of the State Environmental Protection Agency, Neli Korkotadze, presented the results of the inspection of atmospheric air polluting facilities in Rustavi and noted that the department conducted intensive and complex inspections of all large enterprises that affect atmospheric air pollution.
At the meeting, the committee members also heard information about the accreditation of the Georgian Energy Development Fund to the Green Climate Fund, which was presented by Levan Mosakhlishvili, Deputy Director of the Georgian Energy Development Fund.
According to the speaker, this accreditation allows JSC “Georgian Energy Development Fund” to implement climate change-oriented, economically less attractive projects that will contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the negative impact of climate change.
