The mayor of the capital, Kakha Kaladze, visited the families of students participating in the Tbilisi City Hall’s Student Education Financing Program. Three students from Sanamashvili’s five-year-old families were funded under the program, and they have benefited from it several times.
Kakha Kaladze paid attention to the youth programs of Tbilisi City Hall during his meeting with students and noted that the municipality will continue to support young people in the future according to their needs.
“As part of the education reform, which was an initiative of the Prime Minister, tuition in public schools will be free from autumn 2026. Therefore, we will modify the Tbilisi City Hall Student Financing Program and adapt to the reform – we will increase the Master’s Scholarship up to 1000 GEL to further encourage students. The role of young people in the life of the country is particularly important. The future is yours. Everything that is done is done for generations to come. During his meeting with young people, the Prime Minister emphasized that in the future, young people should lead the country with a new vision, new ideas, and patriotism. Whatever we can, we will help you in the future. We are all well aware of the importance of stimulating young people,” said the mayor of the capital.
Tinatin Sanamashvili thanked Tbilisi City Hall for its support and noted that the support of the state is especially important in student life.
“What motivates us is the fact that the programs offered by the state make student life easier and more interesting.” For us, these will be more memorable years, for which we thank you,” Tinatin Sanamashvili said.
Tbilisi City Hall funds education for students with multiple children, socially vulnerable and disabled, and the amount of funding depends on the student’s academic performance. In 2022-2026, more than 3,250 students with multiple children and disabilities received support from the municipality, and in 2018-2026, up to 20,000 vulnerable students were funded.
According to the decision of the Georgian government, tuition in state universities will be free of charge from the fall semester of 2026, which means that the program of the capital city hall will be adapted and will continue to support students in a different format. Specifically, the scholarship for successful masters will increase (instead of 562.5 GEL, it will become 1,000 GEL), and a new program “Young Scientists for Tbilisi” will be created, which means to fund young researchers who will solve the challenges of the capital and work on innovative ideas, and to identify the deficient areas in accordance with municipal needs, and to be implemented annually. Funding of the studies of students who have obtained the right to study in public or private higher education institutions before the 2026-2027 academic year will continue.
