The opening ceremony of Kutaisi Technology Hub was held on July 24, 2026, Friday. The Georgian Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, welcomed the participants with a welcome speech. The head of government noted that economic development based on knowledge and innovation is one of the top priorities of the Georgian government.
“Over the past years, we have developed a system of support for innovation startups, built a national network of tech parks, implemented special tax conditions for tech and innovation businesses, attracted international companies and empowered thousands of young people with modern knowledge and professional development.” All of this has already brought significant economic effect to the country – with the help of the government, more than 300 innovative and high-tech startups have created more than 800 million GEL in economic benefits, employed more than 4000 of our citizens, and Georgia has become one of the most attractive centers in the region”, – said Irakli Kobakhidze.
According to the Prime Minister, Kutaisi has always been one of the most important centers of education, science and culture, and by opening a technology hub, it also becomes one of the main centers of technological development of Georgia.
“Here will feature Georgia’s largest tech park, interactive science and technology museum, TUMO International School of Technology, artificial intelligence computing center, spaces for startups and modern laboratories – robotics, electronics, drones, artificial intelligence, virtual reality and others.” Kutaisi International University will become an integral part of this ecosystem, because a strong technological hub without a strong university, research environment, and qualified human resources cannot develop. Kutaisi International University is creating exactly the academic and scientific foundation that will enable the hub to become not only a space for learning and working, but also a center for research, new knowledge, and high-tech product creation. Not only digital, but also physical connectivity is important for the modern technological ecosystem. Kutaisi International Airport will promote Kutaisi Technology Hub to become not only a national, but also a regional technology center. “Modern technological infrastructure, strong university and international connectivity create a unique opportunity for Kutaisi to become a city where knowledge turns into innovation, innovation – into business, and business – will create new jobs and promote economic growth,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.
The Prime Minister thanked the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Agency of Innovation and Technologies, and all the people involved in the successful implementation of the project.
Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, spoke at the event of the opening of the Technology Hub. Avtandil Kasradze, Chairman of the Agency for Innovation and Technology, gave a presentation about the newly opened technology hub.
The event was attended by members of the Georgian Government and Parliament, representatives of the Diplomatic Corps of the Local Government and the Patriarchate.
The head of government inspected the infrastructure of Kutaisi Technology Hub, including the Technology Museum, where 50 modern exhibits of physics, mathematics, engineering, mechanics, optics, astronomy, natural sciences, artificial intelligence and modern technologies are exhibited. The Prime Minister also visited high-tech laboratories and the Tumo learning space, which combines programming, robotics, game development, animation, design, 3D modeling, video production and other digital disciplines.
