Adjara Chairman Meets Batumi Maritime Academy Officials

The Chairman of the Government of Adjara, Zurab Pataradze, met with professors, administration representatives and academicians of the Batumi State Maritime Academy.

In his welcoming speech, the Chairman of the Government noted that the Batumi State Maritime Academy is one of the leading educational centers in the region, which has educated a number of highly qualified professionals. The role of the Maritime Academy is paramount – to present Georgia as a transit country in the Black Sea region.

“Not only future sailors are growing here, but also future leaders in maritime logistics and port management, which is critically important for the development of our ports.

The sea is a symbol of our region’s strength, tradition and future. “That is why our goal is to create all conditions for our young people to receive the highest standard of education at home and to be competitive in the whole world,” said Zurab Pataradze.

According to the statement of the Chairman of the Government, the regional government will continue to actively support professors and teachers, improve the learning environment and improve the quality of maritime education.

The meeting also discussed opportunities for deepening international cooperation, the development of professor-teacher exchange programs and issues of adapting to digital challenges.

With the support of the Adjara government, a number of programs for infrastructural development and academic promotion of the academy are being implemented. This year 2 500 000 GEL is provided for the Batumi State Maritime Academy in the republic budget of Adjara. These programs contribute to strengthening maritime education, implementation of international standards in the curriculum, updating curriculum, effective implementation of higher education reform.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Education and Sports of Adjara Maia Khajishvili, Rector of the Batumi State Maritime Academy Murtaz Devadze, Head of the Marine Transport Agency Ivane Abashidze and members of the High Council of Adjara.
