Georgia’s Agency of Protected Areas participated in Global Birdfair 2024. The three-day Event was held in Rutland, Great Britain from July 12 to 14, 2024.
The Global Bird Fair is the biggest bird event held at an international level. The fair brings together bird lovers, researchers, experts, nature defenders, and photographers. The Birdfair acts as a single platform for all nature lovers, especially bird lovers to share their exciting experiences with each other.
The Republic of Georgia is one of the largest corridors for bird migration in the world and it ranks third in the world for migratory birds. The region attracts increasing numbers of tourists and scientists every year. More than 1000000 birds migrate south through Georgia every year.
Moreover one of the most important bird migration corridors passes through Kolkheti National Park, Mtirala National Park, Kobuleti, and Javakheti protected areas. Participation in the Global Birdfair allowed the Agency of Protected Areas to present to the general public relevant information about the rarest species of birds that live or migrate in the protected areas of Georgia.
Notably, the exhibition is visited by thousands of visitors every year making it the best destination for raising awareness about Georgia’s protected areas and increasing the flow of visitors.
The Agency of Protected Areas of Georgia established a special kiosk at the fair pavilion. Large number of visitors visited the Georgian stall to learn about the rare bird species found only in Georgia. The agency stall also had printed material to provide detailed information. The little children were excited to see the picture of rare bird species of Georgia.
The Agency of Protected Areas is responsible for managing the areas that fall in the category of restricted areas. The Georgian Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection has created these protected areas. The representative of the Agency of Protected Areas who was present there said that this was a great opportunity for them to provide international visitors with information about Georgian bird species.
