Georgia: The construction of the 17-kilometer Sagarejo-Badiauri highway section is actively underway. This project is part of the broader Kakheti Highway, specifically the Tbilisi-Bakurtsikhe-Lagodekhi international road.
As part of the project, a 4-lane, 17 km expressway will be built, including a new transport junction near the village of Badiauri, 4 bridges, 8 roadways, and 86 water pipes.
The Minister of Infrastructure of Georgia, Revaz Sokhadze, inspected the ongoing works. Along with him, the State Trustee Giorgi Aladashvili in Kakheti and the Mayor of Sagarejo, Avtandil Gulikashvili was also present at the site. They visited the construction site on May 8, 2025, Thursday.

Goal of the Project
The main goal of the project is to improve connectivity within the Kakheti region. It also aimed to shorten the distance between Kakheti and Tbilisi, and boost tourism.
Key highlights of the Sagarejo-Badiauri highway
The new road section will bypass 5 densely populated villages – Tokhliauri, Manav, Chailuri, Kakabeti, and Badiauri, and will significantly reduce the traffic load in the settlements. It will improve the safety of the roads and reduce the environmental impact, reduce the travel distance by 2 km, and cut the travel time by almost half. Furthermore, it will also increase the sustainability of the road by about three times.
A modern, safe shopping area will be built at Badiauri junction for local entrepreneurs and farmers. It will help the realization of the production of small businesses in the region.
Moreover, the new highway will be in full compliance with modern road safety standards. It will be equipped with a lighting system.
Notably, the development of the Sagarejo-Badiauri highway will be funded with 276.7 million from the World Bank and the state budget. The completion of works, according to the contract, is planned by the end of 2025.
