Tbilisi: The representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, relevant international agencies and Non-Governmental Organizations and experts within the framework of the project “Save Nature – Georgia” discussed the working document of the concept of protected areas at the second consultation meeting.Â
The concept document of the protected areas was prepared by the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture. Following a discussion of the working version of the document, the stakeholders presented their views and comments, which were discussed in a second consultation meeting.
 According to Karlo Amirgulashvili, the head of the Department of Biodiversity and Forestry of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, this concept will be the main document of the policy of protected and other conservative areas.
 “The concept of protected areas of Georgia will significantly contribute to the refinement of protected areas legislation. Additionally, it will bring in the harmonization of legal norms with relevant European and international legislation, which will help in the improvement of the management and governance of protected areas in Georgia”, – said Toma Dekanoidze, Deputy Chairman of the Protected Areas Agency.
It is noteworthy that the Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and agriculture has been implementing this project with the financial support of the Swedish government for the last two years.
 The main goals of the project “Save Nature – Georgia” are to protect, preserve, and restore biodiversity in the country and strengthen the institutional capacity of the Ministry and its agencies by providing appropriate support for the successful achievement of the purpose.
