Interior Ministry of Georgia and Spain discuss police attaches, law enforcement cooperation

A meeting held between Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri and his Spanish counterpart Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gómez in Spain on Tuesday focused on law enforcement cooperation and the significance of further deepening the future partnerships between Georgian and Spanish agencies.

A meeting held between Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri and his Spanish counterpart Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gómez in Spain on Tuesday focused on law enforcement cooperation and the significance of further deepening the future partnerships between Georgian and Spanish agencies.

According to the Georgian Interior Ministry, the meeting, which involved a discussion of the role of police attachés in the development of law enforcement cooperation between both countries, was also attended by Mara Gámez Gámez, the Director-General of the Spanish Civil Guard.

Moreover, the sides discussed recent successful combined operations against organised crime, with Maria Gámez Gámez emphasising the importance of the Declaration of Partnership on the formation of a joint analytical team for organised crime. According to the Civil Guard Director, the agreement had further increased the parties’ cooperation.

During the working session, the Interior Minister of Spain reaffirmed Spain’s support for Georgia’s European Union integration process, with Spanish interior officials expressing their willingness to deepen the bilateral relationship and share experiences in combating drug crime, illegal migration, and other issues.

Furthermore, during his visit, Gomelauri awarded Certificates of Appreciation to the Spanish Civil Guard representatives for their “excellent contribution” to the development of the current cooperation.

Shalva Bedoidze, the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, also attended the meetings.
