Nikoloz Samkharadze who is the current chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament refused all allegation of opposition parties about country integration into European Union. He said that integration of Georgia into European Union is top priority of current regime.
His comments are very significant as whole country is facing the heat of protests over decision taken by Georgian Dream to suspend talks about accession to European Union until 2028. According to his current statement, the agenda is Georgia Dream is very clear and party is always committed for European Integration with any delay.
He stressed that opposition parties and some individuals are misleading the protester. He said violent protests are not unacceptable and we will take all necessary action to stop this violence.
He also made it clear that all those arrested under preventative custody will be releases soon once situation comes under control. He repeatedly reiterated that country accession to the European Union is already on the agenda. Moreover, we cannot distance yourself from this in future also until we met this promise of accession to European Union.
He referred the constitutional obligation while adding that, we have undertaken obligations under the Association Agreement [with the EU], and this is also a constitutional obligation so if anybody still is misguiding the protestors this is unacceptable.
So to meet this legal obligation work is being done at ground. Citizens just needs to understand that nothing has changed, the process is still ongoing. It is also worth to note that his statement he also highlighted the Government will make every effort to meet this long pending demands.
On removal of the demand of opposition to hold another early election he said that the demand has been removed from agenda because it has no clarity and also lacks credibility.
In the last of his statement, he called all opposition parties and leaders to come on table for peacefully solution to end deadlock. He said violent protesters will not serve any purposes of anyone be it ruling party of oppositions.
