Georgia: The Finance Ministry of Georgia hosted the award ceremony of the first certified internal auditors in the public sector on April 16, 2025, Wednesday.
The event was opened and the guests were addressed by Deputy Minister of Finance, Mikheil Dundua, Head of the State Internal Control Department, Giuli Chkuaseli, and Director of the Academy of the Ministry of Finance, Tariel Chulukhadze.
The Georgian Ministry of Finance posted glimpses of the event on its Official Facebook page along with a small note about the ceremony. According to the note shared by the Ministry, it should be noted that the State Internal Control Department of the Ministry of Finance (Harmonization Center) together with partner international organizations began work on developing a national certification program in 2020.
As part of the donor-supported certification program, the Ministry of Finance underwent 3 pilot teams including internal auditors from both central ministries and local municipalities were trained in the Academy. After the training certificates were given to 31 internal auditors.
The Public Sector Internal Auditor Certification Program aims to upskill prospective internal auditors and/or candidates for internal auditing positions mainly to increase the role of internal auditing. Consequently, it will strengthen its position as an impartial and autonomous supporter of the organization.
According to the Finance Ministry of Georgia, the certification program includes all the issues or areas for improvement found in the Harmonization Center’s external quality evaluation procedure while also adhering to international standards and local requirements.
Notably, the event was attended by deputies of finance, regional development and infrastructure, justice, environment and agriculture, education, science and youth, municipal mayors, representatives of government administration, heads of internal audit, and trainers.
