Georgia: In the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, the urban renewal project in Dusheti City was implemented in two stages. The completion of the first stage marks a significant milestone in the city’s development and future prospects.

The city’s central park, a vital part of this stage, was fully rehabilitated. This not only restored a key recreational area for the city’s residents but also enhanced the city’s appeal to potential tourists. The damaged infrastructure was renovated, the fountain, drainage, and sewerage system were set up, and the park was greened.

Within the project’s second stage, the renovation of Dusheti’s central historical district is at its final stage. The meticulous rehabilitation and restoration of 33 houses, primarily cultural heritage monuments, have already been completed. Among five houses, the repair and rehabilitation of the house where Ilia Chavchavadze served and lived continues.

“Rehabilitation of the central, historical district of Dusheti is at the end stage. Restoration-rehabilitation-construction of 38 buildings is underway, of which 33 buildings have already been completed, and the remaining five buildings will be completed by the end of the year,” Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Irakli Karseladze said after inspecting the urban renewal projects in Dusheti.

He also mentioned, “A lot of hard work and effort has been put in by architects, restorers, builders and municipal development fund. Here are the buildings that are architecturally outstanding and meaningful – the courthouse and residence of Ilia’s Dusheti, the old pharmacy, bank buildings, and so-called neighborhoods. “As a result of the project’s development, the potential of Dusheti will increase in tourism and create more development opportunities.”

The urban renewal project of Dusheti historical district is a collaborative effort, being implemented by the co-financing of the state budget and the World Bank, with significant contributions from the local community. The total cost of this transformative initiative is 19.2 million GEL.
