Tbilisi: Kakha Kaladze the Mayor of Tbilisi and general secretary of Ruling Georgian Dream (GD) has defended his Government and its policies . He also accused the opposition party of pushing the country towards chaos.
GD’s General Secretary Kaladze while taking over the criticism said that the current regime of the ruling party is serving the Georgian cause while protecting the interest of Georgian citizens. He also underlined the significance of “maintaining peace” in the country for “moving forward” towards European Integration.
Speaking specifically about the ruling party Kaladze said that the Government is always committed to serving the national interest. Moreover despite mild to severe external pressure the government will always stand by its commitment to the national interest. Kaladze also underlined his government’s pragmatic approach to bringing permanent peace, economic development, and progress without bowing down to external pressure.
He accused some people and organizations of having a vested interest in opening the second front amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Kaladze termed these efforts totally anti-national. Since the adoption of the foreign agent law, Georgian Dream has come under direct attack from opposition parties as well as the Governments of many foreign countries.
Meanwhile the key position holders of the Georgian Dream party have been engaged in protecting the party’s eroding credibility. Just a day ago the chairman of the rules and procedural issues committees of Parliament, Irakli Kadagishvili issued a statement to defend the party.
Irakli Kadagishvili, referring to the forthcoming election said that voters casting their vote in favor of the Georgian Dream would contribute to the peace and stability of the country. He underlined that voters are well aware of the previous Government’s role in the Russian aggression of 2008. The Russian aggression was nothing but a diplomatic failure of the previous regime of the United National Movement.
The opposition party on the other hand blamed the GD for stifling the independent media voice. According to the opposition the ruling party introduced the foreign agent bill to stifle the criticism of its policies.
Large-scale protests against the foreign agent law were took place in capital. The opposition and foreign countries condemned the police crackdown on the protestors.
