Kakheti, Georgia: The Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, David Songulashvili, visited the Dedoplis Tskaro town in the Kakheti region of the country. He inspected the dry grain farming by local farmer Nugzar Alughishvili and met with wheat farmers.

Along with the Minister, the Chairman of the Committee of Agrarian Affairs Gela Samkharauli, State Ombudsman Giorgi Aladashvili in Kakheti, and Deputy Minister Lasha Dolidze were also present at the site.
Furthermore, it was noted that the farmer used a discounted agro credit to create an infrastructure with a performance of more than 20,000 tons. The loan amount exceeds 1.4 million GEL, while the co-financing by the state is 300,000 GEL.
Minister David Songhulashvili paid attention to the growth trend of wheat production in the country at the meeting with wheat farmers in Kakheti. As the minister noted, the government’s assistance to wheat farmers aims to enable producers to harvest more crops, and increase productivity. Mandatory certification of wheat in Georgia has been going on for several years.
A well-organized certification system provides farmers with quality materials, which is an important basis for increasing yields, increasing competitiveness, and attracting investment.
David Songhulashvili also spoke about the issue of supply of equipment. It was noted that farmers have not had any problems in this regard in recent years. The state participated in the purchase of several dozens of combine harvesters with co-financing.
Within the framework of the project “Dispensable Agrocredit“, the state significantly increased the loan amount from 100,000 to 300 000 GEL to maintain and produce grain crops.
