Tbilisi: Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili attended the event of presenting the National Waste Management Strategy 2016-2030 and 2022-2026 National Action Plan for Waste Management.
 The Deputy Minister thanked the EU, international donors and partner organizations for their contribution to the development of the sector and emphasized the importance of the document.
“Remember, our goal is to get closer to EU standards. Today is another step forward in this direction. The National Waste Management Strategy and Action Plan, which will help Georgia to achieve sustainable development goals and meet the commitments set out under the Paris Agreement, is the most important document for the country to waste at the national level“, said Pavilashvili.Â
 It defines policy and goals for language management. This achievement is the result of united efforts and work, for which I want to thank you sincerely,” said Solomon Pavliashvili.
The EU representative coordinator for the energy, environment and climate change sector, Alexander Daras, stated thatÂ
 “It is important for us to support and develop the waste management sector in the country. Glad to have the opportunity to attend the presentation of the National Waste Management Action Plan today. I think the new action plan will contribute significantly to the development of the sector.“
 It is noteworthy that the National Waste Management Strategy (2016-2030) and the Action Plan (2022-2026) represent a comprehensive national policy framework document and define strategic directions for the prevention and reduction of waste production.
 The document was prepared in accordance with the EU best practice, which provides for the implementation of the manufacturer’s extended liability (EPR) approach and the implementation of the “polluter pays” principle.
The main purpose of the National Action Plan is to elaborate/enforce waste management legislation compliant with the EU requirements, to implement an efficient waste collection and transportation system, waste prevention and recycling.Â
 It is important that the National Action Plan for Waste Management – within the EU-funded project “EU for Environment”, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center (RECC) and the Environment. It was developed with the support of the Ministry of Water and Agriculture.
 The event was attended by representatives of the Georgian Government, Parliament, relevant ministries, Diplomatic Corps, International donors and partner organizations and stakeholders.
