Georgia: Education Ministry awards teachers of Georgian language

Tbilisi: Georgian Minister of Education and Science Mikheil Chkhenkel awarded the teachers of the Georgian language, Georgian – as a second language, English and German language who won the contest and personally congratulated them on their success.

As Mikheil Chkhenkeli noted in his speech, the Best Teacher Award is a truly important initiative that has served to recognize the role of teachers for years.

The Minister in his speech, highlighted the invaluable contribution of teachers in educating younger generations and ensuring a better future for the country. According to him, teaching is one of the distinguished, highly honourable, at the same time, a very responsible profession and each teacher, by caring for instilling the love of knowledge in the students, serves a daily work of state importance.

It is noteworthy that in the 2022 competition, Diana Tsurtsumia, the first public school teacher of the Lesichine community, won the title of the best teacher of the Georgian language, Zviad Pipia, the teacher of the public school in the village of Kachagan in the village of Chkhorotsku municipality, won the title as the best teacher of the Georgian language, Tsalki municipality of El Bareti Public School Ketevan Emrashvili was awarded the teacher, and Natia Kiladze, the teacher of the first public school in the village of Geguti in Tskaltubo municipality was named the best teacher of the German language.

The Minister presented the winners of the competition with the honorary award – the best teacher’s breast badge and the corresponding certificate. In addition, teachers received tablets and special prizes from partner organizations.

The award ceremony had in attendance the Deputy Education Minister of Georgia Tamar Makharashvili, Director of the National Center for Teachers’ Professional Development Berika Shukakidze, Director of Gudavadze-Patarkatsishvili Foundation Zurab Kervalishvili, Employees of the Center, Deputy Director of the Goethe Institute of Georgia Susan Radvan, Competition Commission Guests who are invited.

The competition for the best teacher of the Georgian language, Georgian – as a second language, English and German was held on the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the National Center for Teachers’ Professional Development. Partners of the competition are the Gudavadze-Patarkatsishvili Foundation and Goethe Institute of Georgia.

The competition for the best teacher, on the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, is held annually by the National Center for Teachers’ Professional Development and its main goal is to promote the teacher’s profession, promote the growth of prestige and demonstrate successful pedagogical practice.

Senior, leading and mentoring teachers of Georgian public and private schools with at least three years of work experience have the opportunity to participate in the Best Teacher competition.
