Georgia: Georgia received nine medals at the 17th Paralympic Summer Games in Paris. Georgian para-athletes won one gold, four silver, and four bronze medals, the best result in Georgia’s history for the first time.
For the first time in history, fourteen Georgian athletes showcased the diversity of their talents by defending Georgia’s honor in 6 different sports at the Summer Paralympic Games. This diverse representation led to Georgia winning medals in all six sports, engaging many sports enthusiasts.
Giga Ochkhikidze’s debut at the Paralympics was nothing short of extraordinary. His jump of 9.66 meters not only secured a gold medal for Georgia and set a new world record.
This historic moment marked the first time Georgia won a medal in the Paralympics and the Olympics. Ochkhikidze became the first athlete in independent Georgia to win a medal in endurance at both events.
The silver medal winners, including paradjudoists Revaz Chikoidze, Giorgi Kaldani, Zurab Zurabiani, and paramethrow Lado Chincharauli, as well as Akaki Jincharadze from Paratsolchim, paradigmist Ina Kaldan, wheelchair shovel Nina Tibilashvili, and the youngest member of the Georgian delegation – 19-year-old Georgian parataekwondoist Ana Japaridze, all won bronze medals. Their individual achievements inspire respect and admiration, making the audience feel inspired by their dedication and hard work.
It is reminded that Ina Kaldan and Revaz Chikoidze won Paralympic medals for the second time in a row, and Georgia won a trophy for the first time in Parataekwondo, Parasrola, and Paratsolchimi at the Paralympic Games.
The Paris Paralympic Games were grand, with 4,400 athletes worldwide competing in 22 sports. This scale of participation and the diversity of sports showcased the global reach and inclusivity of the Paralympic movement. The next Paralympic Games are set to be held in Los Angeles in 2028.
