Georgia: New Environmental Information Portal created to enhance public participation 

Tbilisi: In order to enhance the active participation in environmental decision-making process, environmental information portal, ei. gov. ge  has been created . The presentation of the Environmental information portal was held by the Environmental Information and Education Center of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia. The meeting was opened by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili.

Tbilisi: In order to enhance the active participation in environmental decision-making process, environmental information portal, ei. gov. ge  has been created . The presentation of the Environmental information portal was held by the Environmental Information and Education Center of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia.

The meeting was opened by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili. The goal of the Ministry is to implement a technical instrument that will provide timely and uninterrupted access to information and effective community participation at all stages of decision-making.

Promoting the dissemination of environmental information and ensuring public participation in environmental decision-making are the main ways to increase public engagement in environmental issues and to implement the core principles of the Orhus Convention,” Solomon Pavliashvili noted.

The Environmental Information Portal provides information to the public easily and operatively in the process of decision-making under the law of Georgia under the legislation.

Notably, the portal has been created by the Center for Environmental Information and Education and the National Agency for the Environment, within the framework of the project “Strengthening mechanisms of community participation in environmental decision-making processes and promoting environmental education”.

The meeting was attended by Khatia Tsilosani, the first deputy chairman of the Environment Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Natia Gobejishvili, the environmental coordinator of the “Governance Reform Fund” project of the United Nations Development Program in Georgia, Tamar Aladashvili, the director of the Environmental Information and Education Center, Maya Beradze, the deputy head of the National Environment Agency, and representatives of non-governmental organizations.
