Vakhtang Gomelaur who is the Interior Minister of Georgia is currently on the offical visit to Spain. He has signed an agreement with his Spanish colleague Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gomes. Agreement is about the mutual recognition and exchange of national driving licenses between Georgia and Spain.
Georgian Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri is on an official visit to the Kingdom of Spain with his delegation. Upon his arrival his Spanish colleague Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gomes hosted the Minister of Internal Affairs. At the meeting the parties discussed the importance of cooperation in the law enforcement sector and their plans. They also discussed in detail the measures for strengthening bilateral relations.
Similarly Vakhtang Gomelauri thanked Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gomes for his significant contribution to deepening the cooperation between Georgian law enforcement agencies and the Kingdom of Spain. He also expressed hope that the parties will continue to work actively to expand the existing partnership relations in various directions.
As per the agreement once implemented holders of a valid driver’s license issued by each side will be able to obtain a driving license of equal strength in the state of their legal residence without passing a theoretical or practical examination.
Moreover the agreement further defines the driving license classes which will be subject to change after the agreement’s entry into force. In particular AM, A1, A2, A, B, and B+E driving licenses will be possible without passing theoretical or practical exams and for driving licenses of C1, C1+E, C, C+E, D1, D1+E, D and D+E classes applicants will have to pass a driving license Examination on designated roads intended for general traffic using vehicles or trailers which are allowed to be driven by the following licenses.
The agreement between Georgia and the Kingdom of Spain on the mutual recognition and transfer of national driving licenses will enter into force soon after the relevant legal procedures are completed, as both parties expressed hopes in this direction.
